Sustainability
We care deeply about sustainability and want to reduce the environmental impact of our business as much as possible. It is important to us to do what we can to help heal the earth and ensure a healthy planet for those who come after us. Bees are an important part of this future and we hope that in some small way our efforts might contribute to their species’ survival.
Materials
Sourcing beeswax from Canadian beekeepers keeps them in business, which in turn helps the struggling population of the bees. These same bees then go on to pollinate Canadian crops! In keeping with our environmental mindset, we buy bulk beeswax to reduce the number of shipments and lower carbon emissions. We never let wax go to waste as flawed candles and scraps are melted down for reuse. Making beeswax is a hard job for the bees and we would never disrespect that by wasting such a precious material.
We are also conscious of our customer’s well-being in our choice of materials. Our candles are made only of pure beeswax and are never cut with soy or paraffin. Our wicks are lead free cotton which burns cleanly. This ensures that the only thing our candles produce in your home is the unmistakable scent of honey.
Packaging
Of the three Rs of recycling, reuse is the R that we focus on the most. All plastic in our packaging is reused from other business or other shipments we receive. Even our shipping boxes are reused from other businesses. A box can be reused many times before it should be recycled, so don’t be surprised if you see another company logo somewhere on your parcel! All of our business cards and printed materials are made from recycled paper.
Bioaccumulation
We are also conscious of the effects by-products of the manufacturing process can have on the environment. Compounds such as Teflon or Perfluorooctanoic acids (PFOAs) can have dangerous effects on the environment as well as on people and animals.
As a result we only use stainless steel in our manufacturing process, which is non-reactive and lacks these dangerous chemicals.
Manufacturing
Our candles are poured into moulds that can be reused thousands of times. Nothing disposable about our manufacturing process! We make every effort to be as zero waste as possible.
